Life as a 49er
You moved on from San Francisco and into the gold fields! Now that you have a mining camp, you must learn about mining if you want to get rich.
Read the following documents:

REMEMBER: Not all miners "struck it rich." As you now know, many made their fortune with other jobs. You may choose to be a miner, or to follow another occupation if you wish.
Step 1: Draw a picture of your life in California. Be sure to include the following:
Step 2: Now describe what you do for a living. Where do you live? What were your living conditions like? Where you in a house, tent, or hotel? Are you making a lot of money? What are other people in your area like? Describe a few of the characters you have come across. (Try to incorporate one of the real life characters you read about into your writing.)

- People in your area.
